Wherry’s are excellent rowing boats – lightweight and easy to handle. This one is no exception; she is set up with two seats for pair or single rowing. Her gunwales and thwarts are mahogany and accented with bronze oarlocks. She has lapstrake sides, an open interior, a narrow but flat bottom for easy launchings and landings, a rounded hull that is double-ended at the waterline, and a gorgeous mahogany wineglass transom.
Kestrel is also outfitted with a full sailing package. Her simple standing lug rig allows for one person to step the mast and hoist the main.
She was completed in 2019, and is in like-new condition. Her wooden hull is painted white with a dark navy accent; her interior is cream and accented with varnished mahogany trim. Kestrel has her own trailer.
This custom Penobscot Wherry was hand-built in Searsport, Maine. Her design is based on the Lincolnville salmon wherry, a beamy high-volume boat used on the Penobscot River for commercial salmon runs.
Kestrel is located in Mid-Coast Maine and may be viewed by appointment.
